What I expected.... October 25, 2008 I wish the textbook had more sample codes. It does a decent job of going over the basics of programming. Between this book and my textbook its making my intro to programming class better.
Can't go wrong! October 17, 2008 I read/used this a while ago but never got around to reviewing it. All I can say is that it is very good for beginners (not going into great depth - but that's not its purpose.) For those wanting a strong, basic understanding of Java you will not be disappointed.
Great beginners book August 28, 2008 This is a great book for someone just starting out with programing, and wants to learn a quick introductory course in java. It will teach you the fundamentals in a way that even the newist beginner can understand.
Good for early teen-agers July 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm a computer scientist and taught my 11-year-old son with this book. No difficulty was found and I decided to buy other "for Dummies" series for my son and myself. --JB from ROK.
Good for absolute noobs, but not in depth... September 9, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you know nothing about programming, this book is pretty much for you. It discusses the most basic elements of the Java programming language, with good coverage of syntax and keywords. However, it simply doesn't go into great enough depth about everything. If it's for beginners, it ought to explain all the nuances of Java (what is public static void for), and cover the things most people would take for granted in depth. Overall, a good read for a beginner programmer, though!
