Blue BayouOctober 14, 2008 The book was in great shape just like new. I would gladly order from this person again.
Slightly disappointedAugust 8, 2006 I had this nice review typed out, and of course, Amazon loses it or it doesn't register. Ugh.
Summing it up, this book was pretty good, albeit I think it could have been approved. Jack Callahan was yum - black haired, ear pierced, and broodingly manly. Delicious.
I liked Dani as a loving mother, yet fiery woman in the prime of her life. She and Jack had good, noticeable chemistry that took flight in the romance scenes.
What I thought was lacking was plot and timeline. I didn't feel that there was a definitive antagonist, and for the ones existing in this book, they were too indefinite for me. Sure, Dani's father is a total jackass, but that doesn't make an instant bad guy, at least for me.
Other than that, the plot was too underdeveloped and the timeline felt rushed. I'll be reading 'River Road' next, so I hope Ross redeems herself for me. I really enjoy her writing style.
Queen of steam starts a trilogy of sexy brothersMay 2, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Danielle Dupree left Blue Bayou carrying a secret and a torch for bad boy Jack Callahan. She's returned to a broken woman. Her philandering politician husband managed to deplete her estate - even sold her family home right out from under her to Jack of all people. While the two were in the middle of a nasty divorce, some divine intervention happened, and a grand piano fell on his head. Meanwhile, her father the judgmental judge is about to be released from prison on trumped up charges and has asked for Jack's help to clear his name. The same Jack he ran out of town over a decade earlier when he discovered the affair with his daughter.
Jack has never stopped loving Danielle. Now a former DEA agent and bestselling author, he still wonders if he is good enough for the once golden girl. Sparks immediately ignite when they meet again, as secrets about the past and what ripped them apart threatens to resurface.
Ross, the queen of steamy romance hits another one out of the ballpark. Her hero is not only likable but also believable, and the chemistry between Jack and Dani drips off the pages. I especially liked how she brought out Jack's sensitive side when dealing with Dani's son, Matt. I am looking forward to the further adventures of the Callahan boys.
A good romanceJanuary 2, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the second book that I've read from the trilogy, the other being _River Road_. Although I didn't find this romance as steamy as the one in River Road, it still had the same qualities that make JoAnn Ross's fiction definitely riveting.
I only had one eye-rolling moment during this book; I found it very implausible that when the characters are embroiled in the climax of the book (no pun intended), they still can't get over their sexual attraction to each other and they go at it. I would think a major life-changing event as had been uncovered would be enough to calm the libido for a few moments!
I do, however, like JoAnn Ross's style of writing romance, and I hope to read more of her writing in the future. I'm a die-hard LaVyrle Spencer fan, and although Ross's writing is certainly more graphic than Spencer's, she still has the knack to keep the reader waiting for the big moments.
Steamily Sensual Southern Romance!December 12, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Danielle Dupree didn't really want to go home - there were too memories there. Memories of falling in love with Jack Callahan, the town's bad boy, getting pregnant, Jack leaving her and having her baby girl die at birth. Memories of her father, the hard-as-nails Judge Dupree, tried and imprisoned for something that he didn't do. Memories of her ex-husband, who only saw her as a means to the White House. But those memories were quickly replaced with new ones as Dani discovered, to her shock and dismay, that Jack had bought her old home, Beau Soleil, and she still loved him.
Jack Callahan had never stopped loving Dani, the town's own princess, he only left her because Judge Dupree, her father, forced him to. He tried to forget her while he was an undercover drug agent and attempted to purge his bad memories by created bestselling fiction based on his adventures. His writing brought him fame and riches, but it did not bring him Dani's love. When he sees Dani, he falls in love all over again and Jack seems willing to forgive anything to be a part of her life, but Dani just cannot bring herself to tell Jack about his baby - the one she lost. All her friends warn Dani that she should tell Jack before someone else does, but who else could possibly know Dani's secret?
Blue Bayou is a fun, sexy romance with a little bit of suspense and mystery thrown into the mix. Jack Callahan is your typical sexy-as-all-get-out Cajun bad boy who is in love with the beautiful blonde princess who lives in a tower up on the hill. I have always loved those tall, dark and handsome men who just refuse to take no for an answer! Anyway, Dani's son, Matt, is also a cutie and adds his own charm to the plot, as does Dani's irascible father when he gets released from jail. If you have enjoyed any Southern/Cajun romances, this one is sure to delight!
