No Pleasure in Reading This BookSeptember 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Let me sum it up for you quickly--the plot has been wonderfully summarized by the other reviewers so I won't recap. Frumpy self-doubting heroine with apparently nothing to offer anyone suddenly and magically becomes pursued by a completely hot male who spends all his time trying to make her feel good about herself, although he's been abused and mistreated for thousands of years by dozens of women because he wouldn't kiss the butt of a powerful magic chick. They finally get together and have hot sex, then La Frump decides he needs to be freed and sets about to do it. It's downright dumb. Read Fantasy Lover by Sherrilynn Kenyon if this one made a bad taste in your brain.
Stupid titel - good bookAugust 17, 2008 Ok, first of all: What a stupid title! I was reluctant to start reading this book because it sounds like EC at it's finest But the book turned out not being so bad.
Tristan is a warrior from a planet called Imperia (if I remember right ). On this planet are normal humans and sorcerers called Druinns. Those two were constantly fighting against each other but eventually formed a weak alliance threatend by rebels. Tristan hooks up with Zirra, a Druinn, and when he wants to break up with her she gets really nasty and puts a spell on him to be her pleasure slave. He gets locked in a jewel box and whatever woman ownes his box is his master. With doing that Zirra broke one of the laws of the alliance that states that Druinns are not allowed to use their powers against humans. As a result Tristan's box and her powers are being taken away from her. Only true love could undo the spell and than Tristan would be sent back to Imperia - without his loved one.
After 600 years of slavery Tristan's box gets bought by Julia, a antiques seller with extremely low self esteem. She get's the shock of her lifetime when a half-naked guy with a sword appears out of nowhere infront of her and Tristan is pissed as hell because he has to deal with another master
The rest of the book is pretty much about them falling in love because Tristan realizes that Julia is the first woman ever that cares about his feelings and needs and Tristan finally give Julia self esteem He can't tell her he loves her though because that would set him free and he would have to leave her. Unfortunately Zirra finds a way to get her powers back and she wants Tristan as her slave again
I liked the book. It was pretty well written. However, Julia's insecurities went a little on my nerves later in the book. I could understand where she comes from and all but still... There was also a part of the book being about Julia trying to get with her neighbour Peter and Tristan 'helping' her, which was totally unnecessary and annoying IMHO. But besides that the book was pretty good - not the best book ever but good enough.
My first Gena readJune 22, 2008 This was the first book i read by the great storyteller Gena Showalter. I rented it out at the library a few years ago, and have been a fan ever since. It opened up a new world to me in the Romance Genre. I do plan to purchase it soon to add to my collection. You'll love it to.
Pleasure Slave was great!January 28, 2008 This is the second book I read by Gena Showalter and it too was just as good at The Stone Prince.
In this story a young woman, Julie, purchases a small trinket box from a flea market only to find out that it's sort of like a genie in a bottle. Inside is Tristan, a pleasure slave, cursed to spend eternity to please women. Their wish is his command. The only way to free himself is to fall in love with a woman.
Julie does fall in love with Tristan and he too falls in love with her, yet he denies it until he finally comes to his senses.
This story was really funny. Gena Showalter does a great job with placing the main male character in the unfamiliar world and making them act strange and barbaric, i.e. smashing telephones and answering machines.
9/10 - it was a bit too much like the first novel.
I just started reading Heart of the Dragon by Gena and it's great so far! Loving it.
P.S. - All three of these titles I purchased in the Kindle Bundle. Great buy at $9.99 for all three titles.
A Good Read ! !December 22, 2007 This was light, with alot of Humor, and a few HOTTT scenes...I do think it had potential to be better but it was still a very nice book. I read it in 3 sittings. I also enjoyed catching up a little with the people from Stone Prince wich was a GREAT read :)
