Loved It!!!May 7, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you enter in the reading with the understanding that it is a fictional work and not get bogged down in the different ways concepts are presented this book offers a reader a greater depth of how people can learn to move past the hurts in our lives and have a greater love for one another through our relationship with Christ. Really made me rethink many of my preconceived ideas in life. Thanks Mr. Young!

Such a gripping book!! You won't want to put this book down. This book opens your eyes to a totally new and different relationship with our God. It helps us to see past our humanity and to open our eyes to the availablilty of a true reconciliation with our Savior.

I am a follower of Jesus and one who studies the Bible regularly, and I humbly refute the many doctrines in this book that misrepresent God and His desire for our faith solely based on what the Bible says to be true.
I don't have the page numbers written down, but many statements the author makes are quite disturbing to say the least. Jesus didn't come for us to follow His example? Since when? Sure, that wasn't His primary reason for coming, but it was still 'a' reason. It appears that the author is not aware of 1 Peter 2:21, so I pray he reads up as well as all of you that are swayed by his book.
I also feel that the author puts too much of an emphasis on friendship over Lordship. The character discovers this intimate friendship with "God" in the story, but where is he truly submitting himself to God and His will?
It also really bothered me where Mack, the main character asks something of God like "So are you saying that all roads lead to you?" God basically chuckles and says, "Welll, not exactly." And the conversation ends. Are you kidding me? There's no "not exactly" about it! Jesus is the ONLY way to the Father. (John 14:6) It just almost seems as if the author is not wanting to "offend" anyone, but he's not doing anyone any favors by sugar-coating the gospel message.
Decent storyline, but I am not going to recommend it to people based off of fear that their mind might be infiltrated by false teachings.

WOW! Just read the book. Although fictional, I wished with all my heart that Mack and Will were real people who met Papa. Will buy one for every member of my family. My anut lost a child to violence and this book really let me examin my own feelings of pain, judgement, and forgiveness.
The Shack, "a Holy Spirit inspired book"May 5, 2008 I cannot say enough about the impact this book has had on my life. The revelations of the intimate way that God loves us are so precious that it caused a deep sobbing from my heart that I have never experienced. My husband read it after me and was also moved to tears several times. I am walking in a new freedom and lightness that I have longed for, for many years. I have given away 5 copies and will now order 5 more! I want everyone I know to read this wonderful book.
