Excellent book with real life examples. I can relate to this book like few others. Martha Beck is fantastic at presenting what she knows, experiences and understands. This is beyond anything "The Secret" gives us.
Martha Beck never disapppointsAugust 21, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The first time I was ever aware that Martha Beck existed was when I read her column in the first issue of "O" magazine. I thought, "Holy cow - this woman is brilliant AND practical AND funny. And her observations and advice are solid because I've lived through some of the same things myself." Oddly, this is the first of her books that I've read or purchased ....but, as I imagined, she does not disappoint. Far from it, she truly is amazingly talented at talking about topics and ideas that may seem uncomfortable (or even a little scary), odd, difficult, or impossible, in a way that not only makes you understand them but yourself better. And she makes you laugh out loud in the process ...not in a "toss off a clever line" way, but a down-to-earth, caring, smart, enlightening way. She's among the two or three best at articulating this understanding and help. Highly recommended, for ANYone. If you don't get it, you can go back and read it again later. You WILL appreciate her brilliance at some point in your growth. Just read it. :o)
Best of all the "self-help" books on my shelfAugust 16, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Combine profound wisdom with laugh-out-loud humor and you have one of the best "self-help" book I've yet come across. I found particularly insightful the exercise on listing the things I love, then tracing back the events that led to how these things came into my life until I reached the "bad luck" that started the chain of events. Wow! That put the "bad luck" I've had in life into a whole new light and made me look forward to even more. Any book that can do that is well worth the price and the time and energy to read.

I am excited to read this book. I hope to obtain at least one tip that I can put into practice on the road to health and happiness.
Don't expect it to change your lifeAugust 15, 2008 1 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought this after seeing a review on a meditation site. Didn't research enough. Very shallow and written for those who might want to quick fix their lives with a check list. Also sent one to a friend going through a mid life crisis - Wrong thing to do without reading it myself. We both agree it isn't worth the read.
