5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Gem of a Novel!   December 24, 2008
This is one of my favorite books of 2008 - a sweet, fast-paced, wonderful novel about a woman who quite frankly, I can't believe is a work of fiction. I LOVED the characters, and most of all, the protagonist Juliet. She is so full of love, life and is positvely hysterical! The characters and their stories (forming their literary society under false pretenses and right under the noses of the soldiers who occupied Gurnsey Island during the War) were so real, so absorbing and so enjoyable to learn about. This novel is a perfect blend of historical-fiction and a coming-of-age-discovering-oneself story told from different perspectives via letters, which enable the reader to feel like he/she is uncovering a heretofore undiscovered treasure. I can't stress highly enough how terrific this book is - a "must read" and "must-share" novel!

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful book!   December 22, 2008
It was a little slow at first, but once you get farther into it, it's great. Funny, heartwarming, informative, and sad - all in the same book. Loved it!

5 out of 5 stars I have had it two weeks and read it twice.   December 22, 2008
WONDERFUL, GREAT, FUN, INSITEFUL, WELL WRITTEN, GREAT CONSTRUCTION, GREAT CHARACTERS, GREAT LOCATION DETAILS, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT. IN FACT I WROTE ON THE COVER (NOT THE DUST COVER) AND IN SIDE FRONT AND BACK COVERS "RETURN TO OWNER, DO NOT PASS ON" I WILL HAVE TO SAY ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ IN YEARS. I WANT MORE FROM THIS AUTHOR ABOUT THESE PEOPLE, AND SOON !!!!!

4 out of 5 stars A great light read   December 21, 2008
I loved this book. It was easy to pick up here and there and read just a few pages. The characters were incredible and I actually looked forward each day to finding out what happened next.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite book of 2008   December 21, 2008
Hands down my favorite book of 2008. The characters felt so alive and wonderful. The storyline is fresh. I loved everything about it, and my only disappointment was that it had to end.
