I just don't get energized by his negativity - I don't agree with everything in this book, but I do some. For instance, I'm not sure if this makes my liberal or conservative, but why do we criticize the credit card companies for "fleecing us" when they are generous enough to lend money to people like us who run to them in desperation - it's a market thing! Just let them charge what they want and quit using the card if you want to stop getting fleeced! The market alone should dictate these things . . .
I was excited to get a copy and saw it in the airport on my way overseas, thinking it would be my one book for the 2 week trip - half-way to Paris I closed it and wish I had something else to read.
I'm a Fox News fan so I see him on there all the time and he says the same things.

Depicts the cultural conflicts between mainstream public and mainstream media. It is frightening how the secular progressive ideologue dominates the media. Even more frightening is the belief that "If the media or Hollywood says it it must be true."

No matter how many times it happens, the gullibility and ignorance of the American public never ceases to astound and amaze. Even the most indolent high-school drop-out should realize that we were in a DEPRESSION until FDR pulled us out of it and transformed the United States into the most wealthy and most powerful nation on Earth, and that that's where we remained until Reagan initiated a revolution of his own -- one that transformed our country from the biggest creditor and the largest producer of finished goods in the world, to the biggest debtor and the largest consumer of goods.
Now our jobs are overseas; we allow "free trade" while China, Japan, Korea, and India impose tariffs on our products; we talk about the "free market" while making it ILLEGAL for the US government to negotiate for lower prices with pharmaceutical companies and providing the oil industry with $15 billion in subsidies while it earns that much in a single fiscal quarter; and our businesses are going broke as a result of healthcare costs while health insurance CEOs are given bonuses that amount to more than $1 billion.
And although the Republicans have controlled Congress for 12 of the last 14 years and the White House for the past eight, Morris claims that it's the fault of "the liberals." Not quite. Each point Morris makes is so easily refuted, it's downright silly.
These are what he claims are "the facts" (followed by a brief response in CAPITAL LETTERS):
The United States has released 425 terrorists from Guantanamo, at least 50 of whom have returned to the battlefield to fight our troops.
THIS IS NOT ONLY FALSE, IT'S DELIBERATELY MISLEADING. FIRST, THE ONLY EVIDENCE OF ANYONE BEING RELEASED FROM GUANTANAMO AND RETURNING TO THE BATTLE FIELD IS ONE SINGLE INDIVIDUAL -- NOT 40, OR 30, OR 20. ONE. AND IN LIGHT OF THE FACT THAT MANY OF THE PEOPLE WHO WERE PUT IN GUANTANAMO GOT THERE AS A RESULT OF WARLORDS TURNING IN INNOCENT PEOPLE IN EXCHANGE FOR THE BOUNTY WE PAID. SO CHARACTERIZING EVERYONE AS A "TERRORIST" -- EVEN AFTER THEY'VE BEEN ACQUITTED OF ALL CHARGES -- IS LUDICROUS. MORRIS MAKES THIS STUFF UP TO SELL BOOKS, AND YOU'RE BUYING THEM.
Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton both say they're fiscally responsible. But each has called for $1 trillion in tax increases over the next ten years--and dressed them up as tax cuts!
ACTUALLY, OBAMA HAVE CALLED FOR RAISING TAXES ON PEOPLE MAKING MORE THAN $250,000 A YEAR; PEOPLE MAKING LESS THAN THAT WILL ACTUALLY RECEIVE A TAX REDUCTION THAT'S THREE TIMES LARGER THAN THE ONE MCCAIN IS PROPOSING. BUT DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, JUST TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT THE ECONOMIC POLICY INSTITUTE -- A NONPARTISAN GROUP OF ECONOMISTS WHO PROVIDE OBJECTIVE ANALYSES OF THIS STUFF -- HAS TO SAY ABOUT IT. Mainstream Media has been given marching orders from the Society of Professional Journalists: never refer to "Islamic terrorists" or "Muslim terrorists." And they are obeying! Whenever our brave agents disrupt a terror plot, The media dismisses the culprits as a gang of idiots--lulling us into a false sense of security.

If the liberals win the 2008 election, they will cripple talk radio--forcing stations to give equal time to left-wing programs, and insisting that liberals play a key role in station management.
THIS IS A FLAT-OUT LIE. MORRIS IS ALLUDING TO THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE, WHICH REQUIRED THE MEDIA TO PROVIDE EQUAL TIME TO BOTH SIDES OF POLITICAL ISSUES UNTIL REAGAN DISPOSED OF IT IN THE 1980S. NO ONE -- IN EITHER PARTY -- HAS MADE ANY EFFORT TO BRING IT BACK; THE ONLY ONES WHO TALK ABOUT IT ARE RIGHT-WING RADIO HOSTS AND HACKS LIKE MORRIS, WHO LIKE TO BRING OUT BOOGIE MEN TO MAKE IT SEEM AS THOUGH RIGHT-WING COMMENTATORS ARE VICTIMS OF A RELENTLESS ATTACK BY THE LEFT. ACTUALLY, ANYONE WITH HALF A BRAIN CAN SEE THAT RADIO IS ALMOST COMPLETELY DOMINATED BY RIGHT-WING BLOW-HARDS LIKE LIMBAUGH, HANNITY, AND MYRIAD COPYCATS -- AND IT ISN'T BECAUSE OF "COMPETITION" IN THE MARKET PLACE. IF IT WAS, YOU'D SEE PROGRESSIVE TALKERS LIKE ED SCHULTZ AND THOM HARTMANN -- WHO CONSISTENTLY EQUAL OR BEAT HANNITY AND LIMBAUGH IN A NUMBER OF MAJOR MARKETS -- BEING PICKED UP BY MAJOR MEDIA. TO THE CONTRARY, THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INCIDENTS IN WHICH CONSERVATIVE GROUPS HAVE ACTUALLY BOUGHT STATIONS CARRYING AIR AMERICA HOSTS FOR THE SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF TAKING THEM OFF THE AIR -- ONE OF THE MOST SALIENT EXAMPLES BEING WHAT HAPPENED RECENTLY IN GEORGIA, WHERE A CHURCH GROUP BOUGHT THE AIR AMERICA STATION AND RAN CHURCH INFOMERCIALS ALL DAY AND NIGHT IN ITS PLACE.
Up to a quarter of all state pension funds in the United States are invested in companies that are helping Iran, Syria, North Korea, or the Sudan--for a total of nearly $200 billion.
THIS IS ACTUALLY TRUE, BUT WHAT MORRIS DOESN'T TELL HIS READERS IS THAT THE EFFORT AT DIVESTMENT HAS BEEN BIPARTISAN (BOTH DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS HAVE CALLED ON GOVERNORS AND LEGISLATORS IN ALL 50 STATES TO DIVEST THEIR PENSION FUNDS FROM THESE COUNTRIES) AND THAT THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION HAS OPPOSED THOSE EFFORTS. THIS IS WHAT A BUSH OFFICIAL SAID IN DECEMBER 2007:
"The administration opposes proposals to authorize divestment by state and local governments, which impair the ability of the president to act on behalf of the nation as a whole and risk creating a multiplicity of foreign policies,'' said Adam Szubin, director of Treasury's Office of Foreign Asset Control, in testimony in October.
The Do-Nothing Congress is still doing nothing--and the worst offenders are the presidential candidates Clinton, Obama, and McCain, who never show up for their day jobs as senators . . . except to pick up their $165,000 paycheck!
TO THE EXTENT CONGRESS IS REALLY "DOING NOTHING," IT'S BECAUSE THE REPUBLICANS HAVE FILIBUSTERED LEGISLATION THE DEMOCRATS HAVE OFFERED NEARLY 100 TIMES IN THE LAST SESSION ALONE -- THE LARGEST NUMBER IN HISTORY -- EVEN THOUGH REPUBLICANS THREATENED TO DO AWAY WITH THE FILBUSTER (AFTER 140 YEARS) WHEN THEY WERE IN CONTROL OF CONGRESS, CLAIMING THAT THIS "NUCLEAR OPTION" WAS NECESSARY TO PREVENT THE DEMOCRATS FROM USING IT TO BLOCK APPOINTMENTS TO THE SUPREME COURT. THIS IS JUST ONE MORE EXAMPLE OF THE UTTER HYPOCRISY BY THE GOP.
Bottom line: Morris used to be Clinton's best pal, until Fox offered to pay him as one of its "analysts." He's written a book full of utter BS to make money. You're free, of course, to spend your money on anything you'd like, but you'd be better off buying comic books if you're trying to educate yourself about the issues of the day.

The book has some very interesting information, but it is written in such a fashion that I am having a hard time following the flow of the book.
