What I have always wanted in my life ... August 29, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Excellent. I'm truly grateful to the author. I apply this to my life everyday and not just set time aside for the activities as recommended in the book. If I can master my awareness of space/environment, I can focus on a specific item/idea etc... and master that too. In short I can manifest whatever I want with this practice. Thank you Michael!
Awakening NOW... why keep seeking? August 28, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have read hundreds of spiritual books over the last 30 years of spiritual upliftment... this book,"The Most Direct and Rapid Means to Eternal Bliss" summarizes the most direct means to inner happiness and joy that I have ever read. There is no doubt that if you follow its step by step guide you will discover the true inner peace and contentment that is already contained in the deephs of your own heart.
good but regimented and narrow sited August 16, 2008 0 out of 11 found this review helpful
This book has some valuable insights however the downfall is with he strict instructions and layout of the book. If this book interests you I would read True Meditation by Adayshanti which I find to be much more clear, open, and direct. In fact anything Adyashanti serves to effortlessly and deeply open you up to your true nature. I dont mean to undermine this book, it can produce some good insights and realizations that can be of benefit to your path. But like I said, there's nothing like Adyashanti, everything he speaks about instantly releases ego, and he does so from all the angles needed so that the ego can be fully released. His track record is phenominal. To date, he has had hundreds of students wake up to their true nature. If you want to get a taste you can go to youtube and watch a video of his satsang.
? obvious flaws..red flags! know yourself, write your own book! July 3, 2008 8 out of 19 found this review helpful
I 'd like to hear from the author, who says," believe in nothing", yet begins with several premises, that are belief induced? One that there is reincarnation, and if you don't buy his book and use it properly you are doomed to be tormented forever? Red flag City!
What does he really know for sure? That if you don't do this as he says, you won't wake up? He warns everyone of that. :( (grim, an upside down grin) He has a built in alibi, so he doesn't have to answer questions.
He says it is imperative to 'arrive' but 'arrival' is a belief. 'Being' is all that we can 'be'.
I earnestly was willing to try his approach, but I've been in that place of freedom and I know that all he is doing is putting his spin on it.
The only book anyone truly needs is the one they write themselves!
When you get to the point you put down the books, quit chitchatting with others about attainment of enlightenment and focus your efforts on what you are doing right here , now with your hands, you'll do more of the same and the mind will stop it's pathetic habit of repetitious thinking and you'll have peace of mind! Everyone wants mind to give them peace, but continues to feed the monkey.
Everything breeds it's own kind, More thought to think about, more thoughts produced. Duh! Wanna wake up? Apply yourself!
No Mystery at all!
You don't have to spend 2 years 12 hours a day being 'aware' at the expense of anything else.
Break a habit for goodness sake. The bad habit, that is capable of breaking 'all' others.
The only thing the authors A - Z steps consistently says is, 'don't think'. So his book is about 'not' thinking! ( for 12 hours a day) Read them, it is all about 'not' thinking.
The Buddha said, 'Stop thinking and end your troubles'. Now that's the clincher!
A story: A man went to see his Guru, saying, I need a mantra, I can't stop thinking, help me. So the Guru gave the man a mantra, and the man was so happy. He began to leave and the Guru said, btw, just one thing abut the mantra, don't think of monkeys when you are saying your mantra, because if you do, the mantra won't work.
The man laughed and said, no worry, I never see monkey, not near any monkey, I won't have a problem with monkey!
Then he leaves. He begins to say his mantra one evening, and suddenly a monkey comes to mind, and soon it pervaded all his attempts to meditate. Soon it was also invading his waking thoughts, then his dreams, then he couldn't sleep, monkey monkey everywhere!
Truly what we resist persists.
No one needs a teacher, each person knows 'himself'.
When he trusts what no one else could possibly know, when he gives up reading to find the answer to what he is, ( to verify beliefs, or to tell him what to believe in, as if that will 'enlighten' him). When he quits looking outside for an answer, and applies himself to simple living, being focused on what he is doing with his hands and body, he will begin being focused on what he is doing with his hands and body, and continue being focused on what he is doing with his hands and body. It should take only 3 weeks of diligently doing this to have a great deal more peace of mind. It takes 3 weeks to change a habit. 21 days.
I realize I could have sold this book and been rich. At least it is true, but no one would do it until they are ready, and when they are ready, they need no books at all.
So why write a book? To make money..... pure and simple.
Sure I need money, but I realize that I could say what is important in 1000 words or less?? Everyone who writes a book knows this, but they write it to make money, so it gets long, to become a book instead of a pamphlet!
Once the process begins, well, whatever will be, will be. (Already true anyway).
But be sure whatever happens that you continue being aware of what you are doing with your hands and body. Don't get too carried away with the tendency the mind has to involve and detract from that. Don't think you've arrived and have to clean your house again, it is going to get dirty faster the next time.
Mind is, for sure, a devil! Loves complicated beliefs, loves to mess with your head, but who is boss?
Who are you?
Forget about 'afterlife'... we'd all have been better off not entertaining such thoughts that are absolutely insignificant, and not prove-able at all. What does afterlife matter? No body knows that answer.
The mind entertains an answer, but so what? What doesn't the mind entertain?
So the fact remains that this book doesn't do anything except sell. ( like all other books). Write your own book, and know the truth . This book is full of holes..
Many good points June 3, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I agree with the reviewer who said buy it for the ego-deprogramming, if nothing else. We all benefit from that, and this book is clear and concise in guiding you toward more inner happiness.
