Steiner's seminal study June 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Originally, this was a number of essays, published in a theosophical journal back in 1903 and 1904, when the polytech and Goethe scholar, PhD. Rudolf Steiner, was a new and rather unknown chairman of the German Section of the Theosophical Society.
The first theme explored is the microcosmic nature of the human constitution, its various energy fields, modes of experience etc., and their relationship to nature and spirit. The second theme investigates the process of reincarnation, the nature of karma and the character of the journey between death and a new birth. This is the congenial heart of the book, not an easy read but a philosophical gem of an exploration. After this mind-stretch, there is a quite lucid description of the human aura, its various dimensions and states of being. This chapter really sticks out, as it is much more accessible and graphic than the rest of the book. Finally, there is a concise chapter on the nature of the training enabling this kind of research.
Besides being a classic in occult science, this is a quite useful companion to any earnest seeker willing to suffer an old fashioned, scientifically dry style of writing surprisingly well suited to its subject and not without a certain poetic depth as well.
