Seen Godfather III? Read This! October 1, 1998 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
After being disappointed with the bland nature of the third Godfather film, this book sheds new light on the film's narrative. It is my contention that much of the movie's premise was borrowed from this book.Beyond that, the book is fascinating. Bishop Marcinkus of Cicero, Illinois is implicated in the text, and was forced out of his position as the head of the Vatican Bank due to accusations that this book documents. The book is finely written!
Just another anti-Vatican book.... the truth is not in there June 3, 1998 15 out of 29 found this review helpful
The conclusions of the author, I think, were in his mind before writting the book. The author is so biased in his pre-conceptions of the Vatican and the Catholic Church, that his investigation and the facts he uses fall far away from the truth. The conclusions he makes are just personal opinions against the Church, his style is even aggressive against the Church, and offensive for catholics: he calls the Vatican, through out the entire book, the "Vatican S.A". This book is based on another previous book by a spanish rebel ex-chatolic priest called "Se pedira cuentas", that follows the same guidelines, grab some facts and use them to express the wrath of the author against the Catholic Church... There are thousands of ways the truth can be manipulated, this book surprised me, after having read the previous one, for being a masterpiece of manipulation...
A fine and detailed study of the darker side of the Vatican November 23, 1997 14 out of 19 found this review helpful
David Yallop investigates the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of Pope John Paul and reveals disturbing connections between his enemies in the Vatican and some of the most influential and violent members of the underworld. It is a classic story of "the tyranny of evil men", revealing the worst kind of corruption within the church, while detailing the life of a simple and beautiful man of the cloth who never had aspirations to be pope. It is a crime that this book is out of print, because it is well written and well-researched, and Mr. Yallop is very obviously passionate about his desire to uncover one of most henious cover-ups since the assassination of JFK. A must for any true conspiracy theorist.
Truly disturbing because it is so well documented. October 2, 1997 10 out of 15 found this review helpful
This book should disturb you because you will find that the Catholic Church is wrought with the same corruption and double dealing that has gone on since the Dark Ages. The author David Yallop has done his homework right down to the Swiss Bank Account numbers. Parts of the text are a bit dry because of the obligation to give the reader the full background. But in the end, I found myself saying, "This can't be true", and then believing.
