Very ValuableDecember 31, 2007 This is not another guidebook for parents of Indigo's or the children themselves. It is more of an overview of the ages of humankind, called Worlds by native tribes, most notably the Mayans. Atwater describes in detail the generations peopling the planet since 1901 to the present, their tasks, the energy of the times and how they handled that. She also thoughtfully discusses the current young adults and the new children being born, and what lies ahead for them in terms of the state of the world, their potentials, strengths and weak points, as well as what various prophecies may mean to humans, the planet and beyond in the years ahead.

P.M.H. Atwater's latest book Beyond the Indigo Children is a five-alarm wake up call. For anyone who hasn't noticed the speeding up of time and the exponential growth of stimulation in our lives this book describes the almost dizzying rate of acceleration. Atwater addresses the challenges humanity faces at this juncture in our evolution and presents both perils and promises on the uncertain path to the future.
Combining the seemingly contradictory languages of ancient wisdom, philosophy, prophecy and leading edge science she tackles the difficult task of defining the current landscape and framing the context of the dilemmas we face. Guiding the reader through diverse background information from indigenous traditions and prophecy about the unique nature of our time we are introduced to the unsettling characteristics of the "new children."
Atwater argues that these kids, mostly born since the early eighties, have been mistakenly labeled as Indigo Children because of the color of their auras, the normally invisible energy fields surrounding our bodies. Drawing from new research in this area she offers alternative categories to describe the influences and characteristics of the newest generations.
Whatever we call them the new generations Atwater describes are diverse, sensitive, honest, angry, startlingly intelligent and decidedly different. Prone to like science they process data in different ways and are comfortable with the abstract, providing parents and teachers profound challenges.
This is a thought-provoking and mind-bending book with themes of genetic mutation and lightning fast adaptation as central themes. I highly recommend Beyond The Indigo Children to anyone interested in making sense of the times in which we live. I have enjoyed this authors other books, but this one is repetative and the authors evaluation of the children she writes about is less than professional. I would not recomend this book to parents with young children with behavior problems. There are reasons other than the ones given for childhood problems. It is not fair to restrict ones views with the opinions in the book

I believe in the overall theory of this book. For those who have nothing good to say of the book, (OK, your opinion) However, being the parent of 2 very special children, I know first hand that this is real and not some result of bad parenting or "lack of medication"! Wow, some people really do toss stones without walking in the shoes. As for chakras and other Metaphysical beliefs... Perhaps it really is REAL... Perhaps some people will never believe... Perhaps some people will go on forever casting stones at others without knowing at all what they are really talking about... Perhaps someday, they will know... Perhaps in a next life there Karma will be... to Know, to feel, to cry, to hurt... and to finally see where thier heart should have been all along.

I have worked with "at risk" young folks for most of my career. Indigo's are not new to me, I first noticed them around 1989, as the first ones began to move into Adolescents. This book expands on what we know, and does it without to much Woo Woo. D.G.
