5 out of 5 stars A School for Ghosts   November 19, 2008
Libby Tucker's book succeeds on a number of levels. It is an excellent documentation and interpretation of interesting ghost stories from American colleges. The stories are presented in a highly readable way, and they will appeal to anyone interested in stories about haunted sites. On another level, she provides interesting analyses that show how these stories can be read to provide important insights into the cultural assumptions and values of those who tell and listen to the tales. Her arguments about the significance of the stories work especially well when she relates the stories' themes to major concerns and important life changes that contemporary college students are facing when they leave high school to make the transition into higher education. Although it is an important resource for learning about ghosts, beasties, and things that go bump in the night, readers will also learn that about the everyday issues that also haunt the world of young adults. The book, thus, gives readers important insights into the real-world experience of a largely overlooked segment of our population.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down. One of my experiences was detailed in one of the chapters, but all of the stories are great. I highly recommend it if you are interested at all in the supernatural.
