An enjoyable readDecember 20, 2008 Most books that deal with tales of the supernatural suffer from a similar affliction; that being poor writing. This is the first book of Rule's that I've read, and I'm not exactly "blown away" by her writing, but it does stand out from the pack. Other reviewers have mentioned that her mother was/ is a true-crime writer. Could that have something to do with her daughter's first chapter being all about crimes and their possible connection to haunts?
I enjoy reading ghost stories, particularly ones that claim to be true. I believe more than a few... but solid writing definatley sways my judgement because cheesy writing... ugh... I'll get off the writing subject.
ANYWAY, when I pick up a book of ghost stories I don't anticipate anything real deep; I read them for a light raed on a good night or a rainy day. I think you readers out there know what I'm talking about.
This book was well spent one cold fall afternoon in Pittsburgh. And because I was in Pittsburgh, it was raining. The atmosphere was right, and the stories good. The overall affect was pleasing. I recommend "When the Ghost Screams."
When the Ghost Screams, Leslie Rule listens...November 3, 2008 Leslie Rule writes with much intensity and has a way of drawing you the reader into her world and the world of her subjects. I personally loved this book and the way in which it was written. I feel confident that Leslie Rule does her homework in an A+ fashion. She seems to put all of herself and her ghostly experiences into her books and it shows well. I would highly recommend this book as a fine read. On a side note, she is quite a fantastic photographer as well.
Boring Ghost StoriesSeptember 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had high hopes for this book..but when I started reading, I was immediately bored.I don't recommend this book if you wish to be "scared" with a good ghost story.
When Ghosts ScreamAugust 25, 2008 Leslie Rule has done it again. I have adored her books from the first one on ghosts that she has written. I eagerly look forward to each one she writes. She has a style that is informative yet readable. Some ghost books get bogged down on all the technical jargon and electronic toys the ghost hunters use. I'm pleased to see that Leslie does not do that. She gives us a history of the site where the haunting has taken place and the general population of the time. Her books make for a very interesting read even if you are a skeptic that doesn't believe in ghosts. I'm delighted to see that Leslie writes as well as her Mum Ann Rule.
Fantastic book of ghost encounters!April 28, 2008 This is a book I am sure I will read again and again over time. A look into many ghostly hauntings, and a few possible answers. To me, the most entertaining ghost stories are the ones that I believe are likely to be true. For me, I have seen a ghost once - the ghost of my grandmother after she passed away in our childhood home many years ago. The feeling I got was that she was watching me play - and did not want to be seen - just watching. All I saw was her clearly was her foot turn the corner into the living room - when I went to the next room - it was empty.
It is fascinating as you read of ghost stories - how some are terrifying, some are simply the ghost seeming to go through the regular routine they remember so well.
This book is a must-read as far as I am concerned.
