My daughters and I have been fans of Leslie for a number of years now after having read her first book cover to cover dozens of times.
This one is a keeper!! My daughter has read in three times and we are fighting over it, guess I need to order a second copy!!
A great read in front of the fire on all hallows eve!
Don't be fooled by the cover...September 25, 2004 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
Yes, the book has a great cover, but it isn't what I had hoped it would be. Why?
The content isn't actually original, enlightening, or even interesting. It reads like a long, mediocre essay on the subject of ghosts and hauntings.
For example, there is a story about a man living in an apartment who always comes home to find his cat outside by the door. He then proceeds to lock the cat in the bathroom. Again, the cat is outside the door when he gets home. The story ends abruptly. There is no explanation as to what this means? Might there have been a window that the cat could have exited from? Why exactly is this worth writing about?
The author is more concerned with jumping from one "tale" to another instead of weaving an entertaining or compelling argument for the existence of ghosts.
very good for first time ghost writerSeptember 6, 2004 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Very good book. Included history also and her own encounters. I definitely like that she went to these places and investigated and the inclusion of herself made it a pleasure to read. Just picked up her new ghost book, can't wait to read.
A great read, highly enjoyableAugust 2, 2004 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed Leslie's book on ghosts. The way she tells the stories is very realistic as to how it is for those of us who read these books and then go looking for the ghosts they talk about. In this book she is taking us along on her adventures and in many instances gives the phone number to call and make reservations for ourselves, which is very nice because many times the ghost books tend to keep the location a secret. I very much look forward to any future books she may write.
A Chilling Book!August 2, 2004 Obviously Leslie Rule did a considerable amount of research for this book, and her efforts are commendable. Not only did she brave terrifying specters in the night, but she also braved something scarier--snotty city clerks that weren't too anxious to share their information. What can I say? Some people out there just don't want to accept that ghosts are real...but they are, and Leslie's book gives much insight into their existence and heart-stopping ways.
My biggest complaint about this book is that I feel Leslie put too much of her own subjectivity into some of the cases and drew unsubstantiated conclusions based upon them. Nevertheless, the cases are chillingly entertaining with pictures that will haunt you forever and make your skin crawl.
Though I feel that some parts of this book could have been written better, I also believe that Leslie Rule has tremendous talent, which she's sure to bring to the fore, and I'm anxious to see what she'll bring us in coming years. I've already preordered her next book, "Ghosts Among Us," and I can't wait to see what kind of eerie spell she has woven within.
