To much new age mumbo jumboJune 24, 1998 12 out of 23 found this review helpful
The book promises a practical guide to developing your intuition -- a worthy goal. Unfortunately, in this case, "intuition" is a code word for "psychic powers". Parts of the book concentrate on developing your ability to interpret the internal Rorschach test that is your thoughts, and to the extent that the book concentrates on that, it is worthwhile. Unfortunately, it goes too far and claims you can develop the power to predict horse races and the stock market. If you get it right, it tells you, it is the psychic power of your amazing intuition. If you get it wrong, it is because something interfered and the power wasn't working. I am reminded of the friend who says he has psychic powers to predict whether a card will be red or black. If he gets it right, he says "see, I'm psychic". If he gets it wrong, he says "Oh, it temporarily slipped away". Of course, he's right about 50% of the time. This book begs you to read significance into similar occurrences in your life. A book that helps you to know when to trust your gut feelings and how to get in touch with them would fill a gap in the self-help shelf. Unfortunately, this book doesn't know when to leave well enough alone and ventures into the new-age kook category.
Surprising, thought-provoking, enlighteningMarch 30, 1998 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I read this book in a weekend, even though she suggests taking your time with it. I couldn't put it down. The exercises were interesting and I found myself saying "How in the world did I know this?" This book is especially good for those like me who get accurate "hunches" and deny them anyway. I wish I could sit in on one of her programs, she's very good.
Unlocks the present and maybe even the future.February 6, 1998 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is the first book I have read of this type. Sure I was sceptical at first, but this book is for real. In reading the book many memories were brought back from my teenage years that even scared me a little but now they make sense. The book states that nothing is a coincidence and every person we come in contact with is important. I do not want to write the personal growth I have receive from the book, but not to sound trite, it has changed my life!
Amazed. Apprehensive. Wanting more.December 16, 1997 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
To be honest this is the first book of this kind I have picked up. I find this book easy to follow, I actually find it hard to put down. I'm eager to study, to learn, to use this ability that we are all born with. I want to be a more concious creator of my life rather then just a live-er. I belive this book is a catalyst for this new adventure. It was suggested to me that I work to improve my abilities, so here I am. I'm not quite fininshed with it and already want more, how does one find out more about the authors seminars?
Intuition is not guessing, but using available information.January 25, 1997 9 out of 19 found this review helpful
There seems to be a rash of these feel good, deceptively easy ways to solve your life's problems including this book and others, such as Solved By Sunset. We all would like to be able to easily resolve problems in our lives, but in reality, these solutions are often difficult and complex. Many of these problems deserve serious consideration and books such as this mislead and could potentially harm a reader.Day suggests methods such as picking the first thing that comes to your mind and associating that image as an answer to a yet unknown question or dilemma. This approach is useful in a creativity technique called brainstorming where random images may draw up new ways to look at a situation. The difference is that in brainstorming these are just items for consideration, not cast in stone answers to your problems. Intuition is using conscious and unconscious information your brain has gathered over time to derive solutions. For instance, you may observe a person in a number of situations and derive a feeling or intuition about that person. You may or may not be able to give your reasons for that opinion. Your intuition may allow you to associate past experiences with other people to derive an intuition about a new acquaintance. Your brain is using real experiences to help you better deal with new situations. This is very helpful and valuable. To fine tune your intuitive powers, you need to train yourself to be more observant. It is sad that seemingly easy methods to solve problems are becoming in-vogue. Far better would be information on how to make better decisions based on the most accurate information. But easy is "feel-good" and that, while potentially leading to an increase in bad decisions, seems to be what people want. Experience with these methods will be the real teacher. Sure, these methods will work occasionally just by pure chance, but do you want to base important decisions on chance? Even Day says that sometimes her methods work and sometimes they don't, with no indication when you will be successful.
