I didnt realize this at the time, but "hands of light" is actually a text book to the brennan healing science. the scope of this healing modality is amazing -- i've been learning about all sort of healing modalities for years, and bhs is one of the most comprehensive i've come across. it's not only about working with energy and the aura, but also delves into the deeper beliefs that cause imbalance and eventually illness. it covers many practical elements and exercises that have been helpful to me in terms of quieting my mind and getting energy flowing. barbara shares words from her personal guide, and acknowledges the role of guides, angels, and god in healing. there's a ton of specific info in this book, and i found it very helpful and inspiring.

"Hands of Light" is an informative read that I recommend! I've had my copy for years, and still refer to it fairly often.
Since anyone can practice Energy Healing, I suggest this be the book you start with! Whether it's read cover to cover, or just opened to random pages for reference purposes- you will be taught a lot of techniques that Reiki manuals do not focus on, nor explain in depth.
If nothing else, it gives perspectives on why our Chakras are out of alignment, our how our Aura gets easily dimmed by just our thoughts-- as well as how to make these changes for a Spiritually healthier you.

Text for nation's1st Holistic Health college degree Program!April 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is a required textbook for the "Energy Tools Assessment" course at Hocking College, Nelsonville, Ohio. This is the nation's first degree program for "Holistic Health." Students were enthusiastic about this book, and practiced seeing auras according to instructions as written by Barbara Brennan. They also practiced improving their own chakras in accordance with her instructions. The illustrations are beautiful, and the text is not only easy to read, but entertaining as well. Students also were happy with saving money by purchasing their book from Amazon!
A great primer on human bioenergyFebruary 20, 2008 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
The author has had the luck - or rather, the fate - to have experienced both intuitive gifts and trained and works as a scientist, and her later work as a healer made a good use of both. Specifically, as a child, she spent many hours in the woods and started to feel the energy of plants. Later, she studied, graduated and worked as a physicist at NASA, forgetting about her childhood experiences. Later yet, she turned back into bioenergy, but this time making use of all her experiences. Because of her background she understood many things so well she could explain them to others and that is why - in a nutshell - we have such a great book. Given her previous scientific work, Barbara provides great explanations to the human bionergetic phenomenon, also known as aura. These explanations lay a good foundation and make possible understanding other books on the subject, which might not be as clear as her's. Time is covered in the explanation, and I liked the exemple she gave - some Native Americans classified time in two: now and all the other time, and that this makes a lot of sense in light of the quantum physics. She explains the first seven energetic bodies of the man, saying that at the moment she wrote the book she can see beyond, but very blurry - not enough to be able write explanations about them in the book. She of course touches the 7 centers in the body, the energetic vortexes also knows as chakras, explaining how they gradually open from bottom up as one ages. Except for first and last, the rest have TWO parts - front and back, and they all need to be open and rotating clockwise. Morever, all chakras have openings on all the energetic levels. Yoga tradition says that the seventh chakra is like a "lotus flower with 1000 petals". Well, Barbara says they are 972 smaller rotating vortices, which is pretty close. She shows some typical energetic problems she encountered. Moreover, she even goes ahead to show that various characters (as defined by psychology) have corresponding energetic deviations and problems, so whoever sees their aura knows a lot about those individuals. The author explains the primary reason of the sufferance and disease, which is dissociation from reality. Ok, so this is not new, I found this in every Buddhist book I looked... but now I finally understood it, because Barbara provided some tables showing that your beliefs can make you ill, going from upper chakras and spiritual levels (where it all begins) going further down, affecting thoughts, emotions and finally the body tissues. After all the explanations - including spiritual, from her guides - she explains some sets of exercises meant to balance the chakras and some exercises to become more sensitive and start feeling the fields. Barbara explains in detail how would a healer repair the energetic bodies of the patient - one by one, specifying that for upper levels you cannot do the work, but some guides (i.e. angels) will come and help. This is a most excellent book on human bioenergy and healing.
intro to energy healingNovember 19, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
excellent intro to healing, good background and range of depths at which she works. is probably ideal as a companion to a course - have studied it by myself and need to work through the exercises in a group.
