I've been UnconciousDecember 3, 2008 There are opportunities all around us to learn, adapt, change, think differently, and expand our knowingness. It seems when one is ready to hear something that a concept, thought, or idea sinks deeply enough to make an impression that make a difference though the concept may have surrounded us throughout our life. When I read this book I realized that just because I don't understand it all, didn't experience it myself, and have more wonder than answers that I am ready to hear, to know, to learn, and to expand. Dr. Madaus does not insist that one believe, rather "suspend your disbelief." It has been an awakening for me.

Since Robert Monroe wrote "Journeys Out of the Body", the first and still greatest classic book on the out-of-body-experience (OBE), there's been a flood of me-too literature, some deriving directly from the Monroe Institute programs and researches and some just vaguely inspired by it. But the only book I consider the true successor to Monroe's epochal work is this one. It has that same shocking personal immediacy yet absolute credibility in detailing outlandish spiritual and energetic experiences, then goes further to view them in a far broader analytical context than anything Monroe could attempt (of course it's partly due to Monroe that we now have this richer field for discussion and reference). TLLI consists of the diamonds of Madaus' fascinating personal work both at The Monroe Institute and elsewhere, with each gem fixed in a setting of gold - his linkups of whatever happens to him to scientific research and consultation with experts in medicine, psychology, and physics. But the fuse that blasts this work into an orbit way beyond run-of-the-mill OBE books is Madaus' unique ability to convey the intensity and immediacy of ultra-high energy spiritual states in totally accessible language. Reading this book, you totally "get" that the veil between the worlds is gossamer thin. No other book in this realm, no other book period, brings home that understanding with such fiery urgency.
Thought ProvokingJuly 10, 2007 Kudos to Richard and other authors like him who share such personal experiences with the world. I am reading this book for the second time and have found it to be most useful in helping me understand experiences that I've had which have been similar to his; it has become like a reference book to me. Anyone who reads this book and may be exploring consciousness and the Universe will see from this book that the possibilites are endless as the Universe is just waiting for us to explore it. Clearly as the depth of the authors' experiences show, our only limitations would be the ones that we impose upon ourselves.
Release the need for predictabilityJanuary 11, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It's easy to write "We must explore the issue of how we perceive things versus how they might really be," and another thing entirely to personally do just that. This book is a cascade of experiences, with stops along the way for challenging his own thinking, of a very rational person exploring an intelligent world. The unseen becomes obvious; the unexplained becomes as tangible as touch. What may seem "nonordinary" has practical applications on the job. For those who have had moments of insight through their religious faith or various forms of spiritual awareness, this book illustrates how a successuve stream of these insights can challenge you with an "understanding of people and the interconnnected nature of everything." One of the writer's themes is that his way of perceiving tended to be habitual and that, through his "nonordinary" experience of the energy realm around him, he could change his habits, his approach to otherwise difficult situations in his workaday world. This book is for the spiritual explorer who wants to come back home with both feet on the ground. As the stories unfold, it's a result you might not predict.
Just what I needed....August 18, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you've ever asked yourself what the meaning of life is, or what your spiritual path should be, then this is the book for you. However, instead of answering either of those questions, J.R. will humbly and compassionately awaken your spirit through his awe inspiring experiences and provides you the tools to find your own way.
