It works if you follow the rules!March 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Now I am reading two books on astral projection "ASTRAL DYNAMICS" by Robert Bruce and "ADVENTURES BEYOND THE BODY" by William Buhlman. I find them quite helpful because yesterday I had my first out-of-body experience (OBE).
Every time before I go to bed, I relax and do some exercises from the books. But it never helped me leave my body... Till yesterday morning when I waked up and felt as some inner part of me along with my consciousness started to slide off my body as a glove from a hand. I soared over my bed and realized that I could see nothing.
I said to myself, "I want to see!" and suddenly everything became clear and bright. I was in my room but it had some minor difference from my real room. (The books say it could be one of those astral words which is close to our world).
I flied up to the window, looked around and then decided to come back in my body because the authors do not recommend to do long trips in the first OBE. So I flied up to my body, thinking of it, and returned back.
It was not a dream or lucid dreaming. I know the difference. But it also did not look like a real life experience. I am still stumped for an answer about the true nature of my experience. Though it was interesting.
I have read a couple of other books about OBE/astral projection but to me, the most informative and helpful were "ASTRAL DYNAMICS" and "ADVENTURES BEYOND THE BODY."
If it worked for me, it can work for you. Just be positive, do the exercises and sooner or later you will have your first OBE. Though ask yourself first if you really need it.
(I am not from an English speaking country, so please excuse my poor English).
Best classic reference for out of bodiesJanuary 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well, I've read quite a few books on OBE's and also donated quite a few. Ususally they just give their little story on how they personally had OBE's and what their like. This however is my mainstay. It walks the layperson through the process step by step. What you may encounter how to handle it. How to get through walls. Who knew they were so damn tricky I spent forever trying to get out of my house; frustrating to say the least. But, anyhow this is the best book out there.
On a side note buyer beware this is a fantastic book. But, unfortunatly I had quite the persistent dark shadow demon in my OBE's scared the hell out of me. If your going to do OBE's please be careful and make sure your strong of spirit and mind. Hopefully you don't need to be. I use to have maybe 2 OBE's a week, but because of my little demon I quit and developed terrible insomnia from fear of projection. Yes my spirit became loose. Haven't had a projection in years. The book by the way is great I kept it. It's going to be hard to top it in thoroughness which is why I'm suprised to be the only one reviewing it.
Muddles the Mind rather than Freeing It!January 7, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I started an OBE Group some years back. One of my fellow group mates said this book came highly recommended and its size meant plenty of material for up coming classes and groups. I was excited to read the material and get started in sharing experiences and helping others.
Unfortuantely, the book was nearly impossible to read or use. The text is not intuitive at all. We kept mixing up terms that should have been simple (we ended up renaming many with out own terms). The explanations were either way too simplisitc to the point that you lost the train of thought OR so over the top you really didn't follow what Bruce was trying to explain. Both veterans and newcomers both were confused, frustrated, and we got nowhere.
Only two of us actually finished the book. I found myself falling alseep frequently while reading, having to reread the material to figure out what I just read, and getting no where with any exercises used.
In other words: The book was useless to us.
We ended up using articles we brought together and other books that, while perhaps were not as scientific in method, were scientific in background. While perhaps not a how-to books, Leland's "Otherwhere" was a good read and gives a good perspective based on his experiences and founding material. There are plenty of "out of the box" methods out there too to try and we finally were able to make head way in the group.
Perhaps the NEW method isn't for me... but I'm not alone.
A must-read for any serious student of the OBE phenomenonDecember 13, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is perhaps the most serious and comprensive books available on the Out of Body Experience (astral projection). It combines in-depth research of the phenomenon with detailed technniques and instruction on how-to-have an OBE. The author has spent years studying states of consciousness related to OBE and Lucid dreaming, which becomes clear as you read the book. Having read about every book that exists on the topic (and if the reader has been interested in OBE, you would know there are not too many books that could be labeled serious or even just "good"), I would say that this one is at the very top of the list. I would call it a classic, without any reservation.
