Wow, this is actually plausible December 4, 2008 David Staume, who has a web site called Modern Philosophy, has written an excellent book on what to expect in the afterlife. Whether he truly believes that or not I am not sure (his next book is "Atheist Afterlife" an afterlife using the laws of physics so perhaps he does believe in an afterlife???), but it is sure written in a manner that is quite convincing- and thus makes it really plausible. The ton of analogies he has used to support this concept of an afterlife in this book are actually analogies that could be used in philosphical discussions in regards to dualism, so I found it quite exciting that I not only was able to enjoy a work of fiction and imagination but I was also able to gain insight that can make compelling arguments during a philosphical conversation.
The book as implied by the title, is mainly an explanation of what the afterlife entails and how perception is different from the physical world and the astral world, astral world being the location of the deceased. Not only does the good qualities carry over to the afterlife, but so do the bad. Whatever dominates your inner world in the phyiscal world will be a reflection of what you are in the afterlife. No longer would it be easier to hide ones prejudices, the ignorance is now worn like a coat and free to be seen by the other astral bodies. However if you were a person of good moral qualities, then the outer reality of your astral body will reflect that, and thus be seen by all astral bodies as well. This was the part that I liked most, the fact that all that is really taking place is a transition of worlds, a transformation of perception but not of personality - where the individual still can grow, still can learn, and can still improve ones own character. If the afterlife is real, this is what I envision, a living world for dead people.
Fun to read! September 5, 2008 My beliefs are Christian and I do believe in Heaven, Hell, God and the Devil, so I didn't really take this book seriously
But I found it very entertaining!
A charming, informative, entertaining read! November 15, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Don't leave earth without it! This book explains what happenes when we die from the point of view that the reader is already dead. It has many interesting theories and concepts about why spirits may stay trapped on earth, and how they move on. Basically, it tells us what we made ourselves in life, we have in death. This is a well written text that often made me laugh out loud, stop and stay, how interesting, agree and disagree. I do agree with David's theory about everything on the otherside being luminous, but I don't feel the world of spirits is so transparent--I believe their world is as solid and real to them as ours to us. I also don't agree that we don't see our own corpse. I was clinically dead for 4 minutes, and I could see myself. This was due to a heart attack, in which I was revived. I also believe that we have a sense of touch in the spirit world because while dreaming I have been hugged numerous times by deceased friends and relatives. And it felt like a regular hug. I do agree with his many other theories about the chakras and so on. This is a fascinating little book and I recommend it to all who would enjoy such a topic. It's well worth your time.

This book was the first book I read that opened me to my spirituallity. Although he may not be comepletly right, it is still fun to imagine what it may be like when you die.
Interesting, enlightening and entertaining! September 26, 2005 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Gives you a different perspective on life and death. It makes you think and gives you intellectual thought as well as a chuckle in between. I would recommend this for a thought-provoking read.
