The Power of Positive Thinking!December 27, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book, "The Secret," tries to help the reader tap into the hidden power within. Through the use of positive thoughts one allegedly will attract money, power, health and happiness. On the other side of the coin one's negative thoughts will allegedly manifest illness, poverty, and catastrophes. This is a good book about positive thinking. I see people recommending in their reviews my book, "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone," and I just want them to know how much I appreciate their recommendation, especially at such a distinguished site. I wrote this book out of love and for the glory of God and Jesus, not for my own fame or fortune. I welcome people to read my book, I'm sure you'll find this non-fiction account of a loving God just as positive and inspiring.
Abolition of ReasonDecember 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There are SEVERE logical flaws found within the doctrine of the "law of attraction." I recently wrote a rebuttal piece on it you can find here:
Basically, this book is written by the affluent for the affluent. If you are SERIOUSLY envisioning yourself in that new car you want, you are shallow. If you absolutely MUST have more money, then you need to rethink your value system. Poverty is not an ignorance to The Secret: it is a plight. It is created by genetics, mainly geographic location (whether literal location, or your displacement from the rich white male standing). After reading this book, I could do nothing but weep for the complete lack of compassion these people had and demonstrated in it's writing.
Assuming this information is all true, why waste it on a new car? Completely absurd. People are dying senselessly all over the place, and this big secret is only used for the rich to get richer at the expense of the poor. It's as if to say the slave owners of the south during the 17th-18th century knew The Secret meanwhile their field hands didn't, which was why they were rich.
No, it's because they were white, and had the money to pony up for a fresh-off-the-boat slave.
The rhetoric was fluffy, the content was questionable, and it addressed nothing relevant. It always talked about the Universe (capitalized, as if there was a proper noun, Mr./Mrs. Universe) but never established what that was except for some servant beckoning to our every whim. This is a selfish idea of spirituality, and is only an egocentric testament of our generation.
And yes, I read the whole thing.

This is the worst kind of self-help bookDecember 24, 2008 Read The Power of Positive thinking and avoid the pseudo-science of this book. Its "arguments" and positions are utterly ridiculous.
One has to ask himself, why isn't Rhonda Byrne more successful?December 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What Rhonda Byrne outlines in her book has been done many times before by many different past authors. It's nothing new. Visualize what you want, and you'll supposedly get it. What's new is the enthusiasm which the public has fallen for this concept.
However, one must ask some simple questions. If the concept worked so well (which I've tried without success for years before the Secret even came out), then why isn't Rhonda Byrne more successful? As it is, she is a television writer and producer in Australia. Of course, there's nothing wrong in that. The problem is that she claims to have a technique with which we can get anything we want in life. Why is she not a billionaire? Why does she not have beautiful houses in the tropics? Why is she not more successful in her regular job? Why have we never heard of her outside of her book?
Simple. The concept does not work. And no, don't believe the laughable idea that she's "happy" at where she is in life.
