This is just plain foolish! December 3, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
In the very first pages this book, the authors say they feel that haveing a Guru is not necessary and out dated. That is one of the biggest and most dangerous mistakes one could make with Tantra. The process of Tanta is a process of uniting yourself with the divine, and to receive personal power. First of all you cannot receive any power without being initiated by a guru from a powerful lineage that goes back to the actual Shiva. To receive power it must come from the Guru. Secondly without a guru, any practices of Mantra, Yantra, and Kundalini is EXTREMELY dangerous without a competant guru! You can severely damage yourself, destroy your nervous system, burn out your brain, and even DIE from trying to arouse your Kundalini and practice Tantra without a guru. Many have had this experience.
I would recommend that anyone that would like to practice the ancient and difficult path of Tantra stay away from this book and find a compatent guru. Without a guru, no such practice of Tantra can take place... You will only practice self harm. Just read the Tantras themselves to know that truth alone! The authors should stop printing this book of self delusion in my opinion because that's all it will bring to anyone who follows this book. I would also recommend that if you are interested in Tantra to stay far away from Neo-Tantra, and people touting Tantra as glorified sex. That too is perverse, self-deluded, and blasphemous to an ancient and powerful practice.
A Stand Alone Guide For Starting Your Own Tantric House If So Desired October 9, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
With this being the only book I've read on tantric yoga, I cannot compare it to others in its field, but I can write about it as a stand alone book. I found the book very interesting and very detailed. My knowledge of tantricism was basically the usual western morsel of info, that it's sex without cumming or orgasm, or the physical representation of orgasm, such as ejaculating. However, this is only one sliver of tantic yoga, orgasms are heavily encouraged, although not necessarily mandatory, and it's the effort that is most important. They acknowledge that if you're in a house of 8 people of the other gender, and you have to have sex with all of them (and you do at some point) towards the end of the ritual, orgasms may be difficult to obtain.
An important aspect of tantric yoga, as written here, are rituals called chakras. You start with activating the chakras, starting with the most primeval and basically sexual, at the base of the spine and work your way up the spine to greater intellectualism. You then need to come down, so to speak, so then you illuminate the chakras, in reverse order, ending at the base of the spine. With each chakra is a different diety, chant, material, up to 11 speciic items for each one. Thus the book is detailed enough, that you can start your own tantic yoga house with just this single book.
I am not in a position to start my own tantric yoga house, nor to join one, but I greatly appreciated reading of this philosophy that's basically sexual in its nature, and positivily so, and with giving a lot of empowerment to women, and of recognizing the differences between men and women while enlightening those differences, whether this be tangric yoga, neo-tantric or a wiccan-tantric blend.
A good text and an important work, but not for everyone January 19, 2004 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
As the words "Royal Path" in the title suggest, this book and the system presented in it are not for everyone. It is not the place to look for information on (Neo-)Tantra. The system presented is neither entirely original to the authors nor entirely original Tantric practice and belief.Certainly, much of this information can be found elsewhere. It recieves 3 stars, however, as it is a good collection of information and techniques, and I found their discussion of various beliefs both refreshing and thought-provoking.
This is not Tantra December 6, 1999 24 out of 30 found this review helpful
A pretty disgusting reading, unlike any other book on Tantra I've seen. This is far from sacred sexuality. The book contains some valuable information but already known from other texts. The authors are very arrogant, attacking almost every other belief system known today -- not the kind of attitude you'd expect from enlightened writers. On top of all, the system they put together is a highly complicated one.
Neo Tantra April 23, 1999 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
Tantra is a specific system of Yoga which teaches the raising of the kundalini-s'akti through ecstatic experience, self-deification, ritual, and sexual union.Gavin and Yvonne Frost, Elder Initiates in a Welsh Tradition of Witchcraft, and founders of the Church and School of Wica, show information on their own adapted form of Tantric ritual, and make it available to the West. It also contains a section by Gay Astrologer and Witch, Glenn Malec, about adapting the Tantric rituals for same sex partners.
