paramahansa Vs Swami Rama November 11, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I wish to do a qucik comparison of the two!! I find this book very, very useful. I have many books on spirituality & yoga, but most of them are convoluded! The message is very cryptic and subject to much interpretation as with Swami rama. This book is well written, paramhansa has an excellent command of the english language, very profound, very clear and articulate. Swami rama books are often disjunctive and too advanced for the beginner! Every sentence in Rama's book is cryptic and is not at all introductory. I got more out of this book than the 40 other books I have from different people. Must read this book!! This is a journey, you really feel connected to the author.
A spiritual guide November 10, 2006 This volume of talks by Paramahansa Yogananda is for all who have ever known dissapointment, sorrow,or an unfulfilled spiritual longing. It is for those who have sought to understand the enigmas of life..."-from the introduction in the book.
As with any of Paramahansa Yogananda's books/teachings, you come away with a pretty good picture of how to live a spiritual life. This book has some highly interesting essays on things that, well, really -who wouldn't be interested in knowing about? Life, Death, Reincarnation, Jesus, thoughts, feelings, and a whole lot more.
The thing that sticks out to me is that Paramahansa tells us to read the Bible and the Bhagavad-Gita. He quotes both throughout the book. He explains 'Christ Conciousness.' He encourages one to "Visit different temples and churches -to develop your appreciation and understanding of all faiths. Look upon each one as the Temple of Our God."
This book for me, is a good spiritual guide. I like to pick this up and read it whenever I need a lift, or advice, or just crave interesting spiritual or metaphysical reading. I do not take every thing, thought or idea in this book, -or any book to be THE absolute truth or THE absolute WAY. -This is one man's observations and thoughts and experiences. -Very powerful ones that we can all learn from! Be open to learn from everyone, no matter what their religious affiliation is, take what applies or feels right to you and leave the rest behind! "Whatever Religion You Choose, Give It a Good Test." -from the book
This is one of many of my favorite books by this author. I hope you will read it and enjoy!
Man's Eternal Quest Book July 14, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can't say enough about this book and the powerful message relayed by Paramahansa Yogananda. Although Paramahansa is no longer alive, when I read his books and hear his message about God and living for God I cannot help but to feel that I am in master's presence and enlightened by God and his powerful all mighty light. Just as he tells his devotees at his talks and speeches that took place during his early years in America, I feel like if he's alive now and telling me exactly what he told them and that is that as he spoke to his disciples, he could see God blessing each and every one of them. My life is changing each day. I am little by little experiencing small miracles in my life and I know that those are coming from God because of my new found devotion for spiritual growth and knowledge about the almighty Christ. I hope you too choose this path of self realization through master's works and live your life blessed as I am living mine.

This volume of Yogananda's collected talks and lectures should be on the shelf of every student of Eastern Wisdom, along with its two sequels, no matter which tradition they follow, and even if they follow no specific tradition at all.

Another masterful book by the Yogi.
Reading this book is like walking through a waterfall into another world full of magic that explains your own.
This is a guide to the machine under the bonnet of our existence.
I hope you take the time to read this ... importantly, you will need an open mind ... just because you dont understand something it is not necessarily false ..... the earth was understood to be flat not to long ago, remember?
