A handbook for every dreamerJanuary 20, 2003 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
As a lifelong dreamer, I most appreciate Moss's approach to dreamwork, because he gives the power of understanding dreams and the dreamworld to the dreamer - where it belongs. This book gives anyone who wants to understand herself, her dreams, and the world around her the keys to doing so. In fact, one chapter of the book is called "Nine Keys to Your Dreams", in which he succinctly lays out different ways to work with and understand your dreams. He supports those techniques with numerous examples from the experiences of other dreamers as well as his own.
As a professional writer, weaver, and coach/teacher of creativity, I especially appreciated the last chapter, "The Creative Power of Dreams", in which Moss discusses the power of creative dream incubation, how to write from dreams, and how to use your dreams to get advice and information on creative projects. I always recommend it to my students.
This book is a good choice for both the novice and the experienced practioner of dreamwork. The writing is personal and accessible, and the stories of other dreamers are affirmations of the gifts that wait for us in the dream world.
Yes, it's "real magic", but you can do it too!January 19, 2003 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Robert Moss blends intense enthusiasm with copious helpful details & examples in this very readable entertaining book, which will show you how to remember your dreams, understand them, share them with others, & teach others around you to do the same. I've worked with Robert personally for a couple of years now, & he's even better in person, a natural orator, teacher, & storyteller, with a wealth of knowledge he is just itching to share. Whether you have been working with your dreams for years or are interested in getting started, you will find invaluable helpful information here. Reading this book is to embark on a great adventure: enjoy!
Explore Your DreamsJanuary 19, 2003 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a book about catching dreams. It is an easy-to-read and fascinating guide to all those who want to know more about themselves and their night visions. It takes nothing for granted, starting with the most basic advice but then taking the student dreamer to very advanced work (dreaming of the departed, for example, and shamanic dreaming). What makes it a fun read are all the examples, delightful stories that illustrate the different dream types. More importantly, however, is the substance within the book. Beginning with nine keys to dreaming (a help to those who are just starting to record their dreams), it explains basic etiquette for dream sharing, how to recognize precognitive dreams, working with dream guides, and even how to use dreams for healing. It is a book you can keep and work with over and over, no matter how experienced you become with the dreaming. I recommend it highly.
Conscious Dreaming Worked For MeJanuary 19, 2003 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
After years of searching for answers (and failing to find any) in the myriad of dream books and dream dictionaries out there to explain to me what I was experiencing every night I put my head to my pillow, I finally found the key : Robert Moss's "Conscious Dreaming". Themes from the book that resonated for me: A dream is not something to be dismissed as "just a dream". The universal archetypes are not necessarily applied to my dream-- the dreamer is the bottomline expert on what his or her dream means. We *do* go to other places, visit deceased loved ones, meet teachers, see past-present-future, receive information about our own health-----Moss validated for me what I was experiencing all along but was too afraid to acknowledge until his book reassured me that I was not the only one dreaming this way. "Conscious Dreaming" gave me simple tools and techniques to refine my process and keep track of my nightly travels. In practicing Moss's methods as outlined in this book (and the more advanced techniques in his others, "Dreamgates", and "Dreaming True") I have become so adept at dreaming that I have lead my own dreaming workshops based on these same techniques and have been able to lead many others to this fulfilling dream practice. It *is* a practice, and like any other fine art or sport you must exercise the muscles required regularly and it can take time to see the desired results. For me, reading "Conscious Dreaming" was all it took to unlock the mystery of my own dreaming. I highly recommend this book to any dreamer or anyone hoping to become one!
Top Notch, Plus Practice, PracticeJune 15, 2002 36 out of 38 found this review helpful
Industrialized people such as ourselves are people who have inherited a profoundly distubing situation that has two faces: one is the destruction of our environment, the other are our atrophied spiritual senses, what I call our Otherworldly senses. Moss' book breathes new fire into our situation, calling on us to re-enliven a dreaming culture every bit as in tune with our souls and the living earth as the Australian culture that influenced him in his younger days, and the Scottish-Celtic druidic culture that shaped his ancestors. The problem with some of the other reviews I have read of this book are two-fold: instant, jaded disbelief, and what seems to be a lack of follow through on a pivotal point that Robert makes time and again: that success with active dreaming requires an active dreaming practice. Practice. The book Conscious Dreaming is a profound introduction (or shall I say, reintroduction) of an ancient way of relating to our dreams and ways for apprehending a greater fluency with non-ordinary reality. Anyone interested in dreams or incorporating a more shamanically-based dreaming practice into your life should consider CONSCIOUS DREAMING part of your required reading.
