Something MissingJune 19, 2008 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Like so many reviews before me, I was very disappointed with Fearless Fourteen. I LOVED the first 11 books, and then they started going downhill; however this was the worst book by far. It read like her "between the numbers" books with outrageous characters, i.e. the silly albino stalker. There was no storyline developement either. And when you go back and read how Morelli was in the first 8 or so novels compared to now, it's more than him maturing, he has just become plain boring. Every character has become ridiculous now. It was slapstick comedy before, but the characters seemed like real, albeit crazy, funny people. Now they are just stupid, one dimentional people. I will read number 15, and hope that it is much, much better, but just as one previous reviewer stated, I will wait until I can get a library copy- I won't rush out and pay for it, like I have for all previous Plum books!
What is everyone's problem with this book?June 19, 2008 20 out of 25 found this review helpful
I simply do not understand all the negative reviews here. This is a Stephanie Plum book, folks, not a Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Anyone familiar with the Plum series knows what they are getting into when they pick up one of these books. They are not meant to be taken as seriously as people are taking them here. What's with the deep analyses? This is light, fun reading at its best. The characters are goofy, but they are meant to be. This is escape reading, and people need to lighten up and enjoy it.
My least favorite PlumJune 19, 2008 16 out of 23 found this review helpful
I have been a fan of Stephanie Plum and all things Evanovich for years. That's why, when I didn't like last year's 13, I shrugged and moved on, hoping Fearless Fourteen would be better. It isn't. Frankly, it's a waste of money, get it from the library. I didn't laugh once. There are several subplots that not only lead nowhere, but are completly superfluous and left me thinking 'Why?'. There is a Cher-aged singer, Brenda, who has no purpose but to replace Joyce Barnhard. There is a stalker who serves no purpose at all. It isn't funny, it isn't mysterious and above all, it's not well written. And there are several characters whom I should know because they have the same names as characters I love, but i don't recognize them. Lula becomes bridezilla, my guess is in an effort to be funny. It made me cringe. Grandma Mazur plays online games, my guess is in an effort to be funny, same outcome. Not funny, not entertaining. Not recommended.
Awful!June 19, 2008 9 out of 15 found this review helpful
I'm a huge Stephanie Plum fan, but was very frustrated with the latest addition.
I almost gave up several times, but stuck with it. If this had been a stand-alone book it would have immediately gone in the garbage, but since it's a Plum, I'm obligated to keep it along with the rest of the series.
The side characters are downright annoying in this book (Brenda, Dom, Carl the Monkey to name a few) and even the regulars just didn't seem right. The whole thing felt thrown together, almost like Evanovich just wanted the money and couldn't care less about pleasing her readers.
The worst of the series, in my opinion. I might think twice about getting the next one on the release date in 2009, which is a real shame since I've liked the series for so long
Not good enoughJune 19, 2008 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I was skeptical of the 2 star rating before the book was even released, so I purchased it on the first day it came out. It was a quick read and I enjoyed revisiting the familiar characters, but I have to agree with the reviewer who called it silly and ridiculous. I won't say goodbye to the series, but I won't purchase the next books in the series. They're not worth the high price. I've looked forward to the realease of all of these books, but this time I was disappointed. I wish it had been better.
