This scrapbook is definitely a fun read for any fan. It is especially clever in the way it is put together what with side "pockets" which hold precious letters and documents, much like what would be seen in a real family scrapbook. That being said, you should have realistic expectations before you purchase the book...
If you are looking for direct communication between Lucy and Desi (i.e. telegrams, love letters, letters sent between them post divorce) you are bound to be disappointed. I would estimate there are between 2 and 3 actual direct pieces of correspondence between the two of them throughout the entire scrapbook. Supposedly these two sent "numerous" love letters during WWII, but these letters were apparently kept private, because they were certainly not included here. There are one or two telegrams, one small Valentine's Day card (one of the small ones that comes with flowers) and one typed letter from Desi to Lucy in 1969 -- after they were divorced. Other than that, most of the momentos in this book include notes sent from various celebrities to Lucy and/or Desi throughout their lifetime.
Of course, the book also includes important documents like Desi's passport, the couple's marriage license, death notices, and baptism certificates for their children, but the side narration appears to be directly lifted from their individual autobiographies. In other words, for die-hard Lucy/Desi fans, there is little you haven't read before.
There is even one whole page dedicated to the marriage of Lucy to Gary Morton -- something I neither expected nor particularly wanted to see in a scrapbook entitled, "Lucy and Desi."
The book is certainly a pleasurable browse, and there are lots of great pictures from the day they were first married throughout the "I Love Lucy" show, but don't be fooled -- if you are mostly interested in the 20 (or should I say 46) year love affair between Lucy and Desi, you might be a bit let down. This material might be better titled, "The Lives of Lucy and Desi" as it doesn't make an overt effort to focus on direct communication between the two of them either pre or post divorce. Again I was especially disappointed in the lack of WWII era letters/telegrams as it is a documented fact that they wrote to eachother quite a bit during this time period.
Awesome item, too bad it was damaged.January 2, 2009 Melissa This is amazing. I love this book and I recommend it to any fan. I was upset that this was shipped to me and the cover sleeve that it comes in was bent and damaged, but the book inside appears to be okay. Amazon needs to do a bit of a better job handling and inspecting things for damage before they ship them to customers.

This was purchased for my daughter who happens to be a huge Lucy fan. She thoroughly enjoyed it as it is chock full of reproduced letters, articles and other memorabilia. It makes a wonderful gift.

When I received this book in the post I did not put it down for a least an hour. It was so thoughtfully put together and showed all of Desi and Lucy's fans just how much they loved and cared for each other thoughtout their lives.
My most memorable areas are the little pieces written by the couple describing their thoughts and how they felt about each other. Lucy's words about Desi's death really struck me as although she had been married for 25 years she still felt his death hard.
My daughter who is only aged 15 years also could not put it down and was especially interested in the reproductions of the important letters and documents.
We both love it and it is certainly a must for the bookshelf of any Lucy and Desi fan.
