Excellent overview and illustrationsNovember 18, 2008 It's great to see a book from the champ that's well laid out, and not too expensive. Would have liked to have read more discussion of fighting philosophy, which is the only knock on this book. The illustrations and explanations are first rate for anyone who practices MMA, or who just wants to understand technique and strategy.
This Is Fedor's Style of Fighting and Don't You Forget It!October 26, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The primary thing that one must keep in mind when reading this book is that this is Fedor's style of fighting and although it is well suited for him, it may not be so well suited for you. Each person is unique and will revert to using those techniques in which they know how to execute best. Now with that in mind, this is a very well done book that showcases Fedor's training style somewhat and the techniques in which he uses in competition. If you are expecting to really come away from this book learning something entirely new or some secret that Fedor uses, then you will be disappointed.
However, if you want a book that has a very good layout, lots of color photographs from various angles demonstrating the techniques that have made Fedor "The" force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division, then this is the book for you. He covers pretty much every aspect of competition in the cage from; basic striking, to clinching, groundwork, grappling, ground and pound, counters, etc. These areas are all covered will, although I felt a couple of areas could have been more detailed.
I would strongly recommend this book as well as the following two books for those of you interested in learning and competing in MMA.
Wrestling for Fighting: The Natural Way
Mixed Martial Arts: The Book of Knowledge
Shawn Kovacich Martial Artist/Author of the Achieving Kicking Excellence series.
Excellent !!!October 25, 2008 Probably the best book about MMA fighting. I have seen some instructional books and dvds about the subject and many are full of worthless fancy techniques. Not this one!..This one goes straight to the point. If you have seen Fedor fighting you'll see he teaches you the same techniques. I would highly recommended for any serious practitioner.

We all know who is Mr Emilianenko, so no need to talk about him. But about book.In book description is writen Fedors "cardio training". But in book is not even a paragraph about it. Description of Fedor techniques is 4 star, but his winning is not only from his techniques. Without his coordination, speed, strength and stamina he would not be a "Fedor". But in book is also not a word about it. When you look at Fedor, you do not see a muscle guy, like many other MMA fighters, he looks more like a big guy from neighborhood, who do not care about bodyfat and muscle quantity. But he beat tham all very efectively. There are many MMA guys with excellent technique, but without Fedors speed and strength( I do not mean squat and bench preess strength). Again, in book description is writen " this book leaves no stone unturned", do you thint is it true? At the end, that is why this book is far from my expectations, and the author is maybe preparing a new book about the missing things.
Good but basic bookOctober 15, 2008 Fedor is the king of MMA. He's beaten more top level competition than any other fighter out there. He does it by using a handful of basic techniques and drilling them to perfection. He shows you those techniques in this book without adding in a bunch of fancy junk that doesn't work, or he doesn't use.
Everything in this book you can see fedor use in his fights. Highly recommended for people serious about learning good, solid fundamental fighting techniques.
