Product Description Sticky Situations is a devotional book for families with children ages 8 to 12 that offers short readings for each day of the year. Each reading begins with a kid who is facing a moral dilemma and ends with multiple-choice solutions for the family to discuss. Often there is more than one acceptable course of action to take. Parents will find tips in the back of the book that interpret the various choices made by the children and offer follow-up questions for further discussion on each topic. Scripture references are provided to give biblical insight into each situation. Sticky Situations is a great discussion starter that will give parents the chance to share their own values with their children.
Fun, but choices are dopey.November 12, 2008 We enjoy this book purely because we love laughing at the stupid multiple choice answers where it's so obvious which one you should pick. 99% of the time it goes something like this:
Bob's friend broke a promise. Should Bob:
a. Scream and hit his friend.
b. Run away from his friend and never speak to him again.
c. Forgive his friend.
Yeah, pretty much just a waste of time.
To add to that, the scripture references often don't even relate to the situation at all.
Good idea, but falls ridiculously short of being even close to a good use of time.
Wonderful Devotional for all Elementary age kidsMay 9, 2008 Wow, when I picked this book up in the Christian Book Store I was immediately taken by it. I've always looked for devotionals that would really hold my childrens' interests and this is it! Each day there is a new "sticky situation" that a child is in, and it gives multiple choice answers to figure out. Then it tells you where you can find help in the Bible (give a verse) and how to discuss this. I have a 7yr old girl and 10.5 yr old boy and this book is great for both. It will be good for my son until he's at least 12. I also got the second version of this book which is just as good :) These are perfect to do either during breakfast in the morning or during dinner in the evening as a family. We keep them on our kitchen counter along with a Bible. You'll love it :)
Interesting approach to Bible StudyApril 19, 2008 These short narratives of "What would you do?" really appeal to our grandsons, 7 and 9. They enjoy reading one after dinner each night. We haven't found one yet that they didn't give the right answer to, although my husband had challenges to one. I was concerned that the situations would be too mature for them, but they are handling them well. Some of the situations involve teens. I am trying another couple of books to see the differences, so will review them also. Overall, a great approach to discussing the right thing to do and the related Bible verses.
Good devotional for many ages!April 15, 2008 Each page plunges the reader into a particular situation which kids can definitely relate to. The situation is presented then the reader is asked what she he/she would/should do. Lastly, a scripture is given to look up to show a proper Biblical response. Helps kids to think about making good decisions based on scriptural truths.
Sticky Situations make kids thinkJanuary 15, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased Sticky Situations as part of the expectations for a kids small group. I am wanting to teach them the importance of daily devotions and also help them to think on their own when they need to make decisions. This devotional provides a situational story and then gives the reader several options of ways to respond. After they make their choice the reader can then confirm their answer through the scripture reference. Kids are faced with many choices aside from the one made at home and this book should help them make right choices.
