Sanskrit Glossary for every word in the sutras
The Psychology of Mystical Awakening: The Patanjali Yoga Sutras, by Satguru Guru Swami Savitripriya, is an `Embellished Translation' from Sanskrit to contemporary English of this famous scripture on the practice of the Yoga Dharma that leads one to enlightenment. We think of it an `embellished' translation because embellished means `embroidered', `decorated', `made beautiful', and that is exactly what Swami Savitripriya has done: she has taken dry Sanskrit verses - often only containing a few words - and turned them into beautifully written understandable instructions that enable one to practice the teachings and bring enlightenment to all phases of one's life experiences.
The Psychology of Mystical Awakening: The Patanjali Yoga Sutras can be best described as a book of precise instructions on how to walk the path of the Yoga Dharma, leading to personal fulfillment and spiritual enlightenment, thereby attining Eternal Divine happiness and bliss now, while still in a body here on earth.

Patanjali Yoga Sutra's Translation and commentaryMarch 2, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is lucid and insightful. The author obviously writes from personal experience. It is not filled with useless speculation. It clearly translates the sutra and gives a minimal amount of commentary designed so that the Western student can understand the Sutra. Unlike many books about eastern topics this book is written by an individual who's commentary is based upon personal experience and insight. The great difficulty with most books about esoteric topics from the east is that there are few people in the West who have developed the insight to comment on the topics based upon personal experience. It is sort of like writing a book about swimming when you have never gone swimming. Many western writers who write about this Sutra seem to have lots of knowledge, but little insight. There is a big difference. This writer shows insight. It is a very useful and valuable book for anyone seeking to understand the Yoga Sutra's of Patanjali.
The journey through her words.November 26, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As you read the book, which is beautifully written, you actually feel like if she is there with you, sharing the enlightment and tranquility that comes out of every phrase. Few words to explain, makes it easy to understand. Seems like if one have previously experienced the wonders of this ancient religion.
The author is sagacious and possesses true understanding.September 18, 1996 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
The discriminating wisdom of the author is immediately obvious to the reader as one flows through the text. Her insight is obviously gained from personal experience collected over many years of self-study and internal transformation. If the reader has any interest in the YOGA SUTRA'S OF PATANJALI, this is the eminent western translation. Although not a verbatim copy with heavy commentary as is the custom of most translators when dealing with this ancient Sanskrit text, Savitripriya explains and expounds in everyday, plain english. Most refreshing! Very enlightening.
