Sorry dude, but you're wrong April 14, 2008 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
The Bible talks about ghosts in several passages, and to assume that a belief in ghosts goes against the word of God is wrong. While I have no interest in what the so-called psychics have to say about the afterlife, I have personally talked to many people who have experienced encounters with ghosts, including people who have captured ghosts in photographs and on video, and they were not demons. Mr. Rhodes is just trying to shove his own beliefs down everyone's throats as if he is the definitive expert on the subject. Sorry, Mr. Rhodes, you are flat out wrong.
Mostly Fluff January 20, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you are looking for Biblical defense against psychic phenomena save your money and Google the verses. Over half of this book is spent giving recaps of the various psychic type television shows, movies and books...Ghost Hunters, Ghost Whisperer, Dead Tenants, The Sixth Sense, Poltergeist... Another portion of the book focuses in on specific psychics; Van Praagh, Browne and Edwards seem to be his favorites. If you want to cut to the chase start at Chapter 8, the rest is mostly fluff. Although Rhodes theorizes that psychics use a combination of fraudulent techniques and demonic activities he fails to prove the later.
In summary, this wasn't a bad read but I didn't take away from it anything I didn't already know besides some information regarding TV shows and movies.
Not What I Thought It Was, But I Liked It October 20, 2007 When I purchased this book, I thought it would be primarily on ghosts and "ghostly activity." I was somewhat disappointed to discover that it focused primarily on psychics and psychic phenomena. While the topic of ghosts was mentioned in the book, it wasn't much compared to the amount of space dedicated to debunking the activities of Sylvia Browne, John Edward, and the like.
Despite that, I still enjoyed and learned from it. It gives a very good insight on the psychic view of the afterlife and what happens when we die. I would recommend it to those interested in a biblical perspective on mind reading, speaking with ghosts, seyances, and the like.
An Accurate Critique Based on Biblical Scripture May 22, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Rhodes reveals methods of trickery used by mediums and psychics to account for their times of accuracy. He also admits that not all mediums and psychics are fakes but proves based on biblical scripture that their revelations are derived from evil sources. Not a necessary read for someone who knows and practices biblical teachings but a good refresher and reference for someone who has lost their way.
A good biblical defense October 30, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In this excellent book by author Ron Rhodes, he gives an exceptional biblical refutation and defense of biblical reasons why Christians and non-christians should be highly discerning of what psychics are promoting and teaching people to believe from their books and tv appearances. The occult and psychic phenomena has always been forbidden in the bible, (Deut. 18:10-13), yet today we are seein an absolute acceleation of interest in psychics, ghosts, the supernatural, and the Paranormal. The author refers to "The 1960's brought a massive invasion of Eastern Philosophy into the West... this openness to Eastern religion was largely a reaction against tradional Western values,"
What psychics are promoting, Ron Rhodes warns, is another gospel, not according to the teachings in Scripture. You may have seen these psychic's books in Christian book sections of popular bookstores and other retailers, that is because some psychics say they are Christians, but what they believe is far from Christian theology and what is taught in the bible.
