Laura Day, who has been "intuitive"--her word for "psychic"--since youth, here asserts that you, too, can milk your sixth sense for all it's worth. While Day's gift comes naturally to her, she contends that anyone can improve his or her natural intuitive instincts. While you may not win the lottery on your next try, this book may very well help you think more deeply and more clearly, helping you to function at a higher level than before. (Finding your car keys, for example, may not be a half-hour long process anymore.) Your attitude will undoubtedly have a great effect on your degree of success with her program. (If this helps at all, try to remember that Brad Pitt is a devout Day supporter, and James D. Watson, Nobel laureate and co-discoverer of the DNA helix, has endorsed Day's intuitions.) At any rate, the book is filled with plenty of brain-stretching exercises, and who can't use some of those?

3 out of 5 stars Not a How To   August 20, 2008
This is not a how to book, for that I'd recommed other books such as How To Do Psychic Readings Through Touch, Psychic Protection: Beginnings (Beginnings (Jackson, Tenn.).), Psychic Power: Young Person's School of Magic and Mystery (Young Person's School of Magic and Mystery, Vol. 2) and others.

This book is more for the beginners beginner and just knowing/understanding what intuition is.

2 out of 5 stars Some insights, but hard to read   July 10, 2008

I wanted to like this book, I really did, but I felt that the exercises were presented strangely, the book organized poorly, and the flow of the book stagnant. I believe Laura Day has intuit abilities and it's disappointing that someone so in touch with her sixth sense, and therefore somewhat tapped into the mystery of the unseen world around us, couldn't access a more convincing and fluid way to get her points across.

I gained some insights from the book. For example, I liked the explanation of how children shouldn't be stifled when they see a monster in their bedroom because this is a symbol that means something. We, as conditioned adults, have learned to tune out and discount this symbol as child's play, as well as most other symbols -- and we shouldn't! There are other sprinklings of knowledge that I found interesting.

Maybe I wrote my questions (which are the basis of the rest of the exercises in the book) poorly to start off, but I didn't think the "how to write a proper question" section was explained well. Perhaps if I wrote better intro questions I'd have gotten more from the book. That doesn't take away from my feeling that the book was off in some way.

3 out of 5 stars A bit disappointed   November 5, 2007

I bought this book a couple of years ago. Since I am already very intuitive, I thought it would be interesting. I tried my best to do the exercises she asks for reader to do, but the people in the book had far more colorful images and analysis of their thoughts than I did! The exercise were hard for me to do - how do you know whether you are picking up clues for yourself or for someone that you know? Or even images from TV or movies that you've seen? I felt frustrated that I did not understand what was expected of me in the exercises and could not relate the disjointed images that I received to anything relevant in my life.

2 out of 5 stars New Age Babbling   April 1, 2007

I'm already somewhat intuitive, I get the gut feelings, chills, sick feeling when the thing being guessed about is negative, the sense that something is just wrong, or I'll have something come to me that won't make sense but will later on. These things are mentioned in this book, and for that I'm glad, as it will clarify what intuition means in that sense. However I feel the book may lead those less knowledgable of what intuition is and what it feels like and what it's good for to some wrong conclusions. The book goes down the road of new age beliefs rather than practical uses for intuition, the whole "you create your reality" stuff which does not have much to do with intuition. Intuition is that feeling that you "just know," creating your reality is what you focus all your thoughts on all the time and how your life forms around those. Not the same thing! Also it talks a LOT about doing 'readings' and about psychic stuff, leading one to believe that intuition is focused on others and on the far future, and I've found this to not be true at all. Intuition does not have to be premonitions or asking someone a bazillion questions to pull info out of them until they tell you what they want to believe.

Also, the exercises, Exercise 4 claims to be you using your intuition to make answers to a bunch of phrases, such as "a man's name." However, I've found that the list, my answers which I did not give much thought to, were not some random intuitive message, they were in fact many of my favorites. It asks you to choose a color...most people will be tempted to put down their favorite color, not some magical psychic message that has some huge meaning behind it. The book also asks you to take all your very abstract random responses to questions asked in the book and then apply them to a question of yours that is not even remotely related to those random responses you had, and to make up a response that foretells the future for that question. It's just like asking a magic 8 ball a question and getting a response. You know the answer and question don't actually go together.

It is unfortunate that this book is on the market, leading people to wrong ideas about what intuition is, how to use it, and what it can do for you. There are too many new age-y books that rely on quick thoughtless exercises that claim that everything all fits together in the large universe so everything MUST have meaning, however, think of this: if everything had meaning, even the shape of your bowel movement must have meaning, or the sounds your shoes make on the pavement have some magnificient meaning. That's what this book wants you to believe. It has nothing to do with intuition, it is disguised spiritual b.s.

5 out of 5 stars Practical is the Key Word   March 16, 2007

Everyone is born with intuitive ability that they can develop and harness to make life work for them - whether it is to be aware of good opportunities, bad people, or find out where you lost your keys ... intuition and intellect are the best bed fellows. Although it is a matter of debate ... psychic awareness is something much bigger than intuition. Everyone is intuitive but not all people are the bonafide psychic who can see across the realms of creation. Nonetheless, don't allow intuition to stay dormat. Don't get wacky and forget about magic. Harness your intuition and allow yourself to be focused to its constructive and practical uses in your life. You create your reality.
